We have successfully conducted the second Mugna sa Gugma yesterday! Hooray! This activity, which started in a group chat discussion of some bloggers last year, is truly getting annual.
This year, Mugna sa Gugma reached out to random kids in Mactan. The event was made fun through book reading, book-making and story-telling made by the children themselves. But the best part was the participation of Magic Melt Philippines and their healthylicious delights.
It is the aim of Mugna sa Gugma to provide kids with good nutrition in addition to learning. Magic Melt Philippines distributed delightfully nutritious pastries made from mango flour that are rich in anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals, dietary fiber and digestive enzymes. They are every child’s need as mango flour helps strengthen the immune system and facilitates efficient food intake and digestibility. Most of all, they are perfectly delicious. The children, as well as the organizers, kept asking for more.
The event lasted the whole day and I can say everybody had a wonderful time. During the story writing/book-making activity, nobody ever thought how imaginative and creative children as young as 5 years old can be. The organizers gasped in awe when the kids started sharing their own stories. There was a whole lot of laughter when some children shared an epic combination of comedy, fantasy and tragedy in one story. Some also wrote a one-sentence story that says it all. While others let you interpret their drawings then create your own story. They’re kids, what do you expect?
But there were those kids who really touched our hearts and filled us with awe through their writings. One shared a story about their family and another wrote a story complete with dialogues. Indeed, it only takes one opportunity for these children to reveal their talents. Then, hopefully, the adults can hone them and help set a bright path for their future.
We are all looking forward and very excited for next year’s Mugna sa Gugma. How many more children can we reach out? What other talents can we discover? Let’s find out.
Our sincerest thanks also to Mactan Institute of Technology (MIST) and its very welcoming teachers for giving us a place to conduct the activity.
